Providing forklift safety training to operators is one of the best practices to prevent accidents involving employees and product. However, even with training, operators will find themselves in dangerous situations. Toyota recognizes this reality and since 1999 has equipped their forklifts with the System of Active Stability (SAS). This system includes an active control rear stabilizer and active mast function controller.

Active Control Rear Stabilizer System

Toyota’s SAS uses patented technology to sense various factors that lead to potential lateral instability. When those conditions are detected, the SAS instantly locks the Swing Lock Cylinder, a hydraulic cylinder on the rear steer axle. This action changes the forklift’s stability footprint from triangular in shape to rectangular and decreases the likelihood of a tip-over.

Active Mast Function Controller System

Using the same patented technology, the active mast function controller system senses factors that lead to longitudinal instability. Two features are activated to help reduce the chances of forward or rearward tip-overs: forward tilt control and rear tilt speed control.

The forward tilt control will sense load weight and mast height, then automatically override the operator’s manual control and limit forward tilt to decrease the chance of spilling a load or tipping the forklift forward.

The rear tilt control also senses load weight and mast height to govern the mast’s reverse tilt speed to half, decreasing the chances of spilling unsecured loads or tipping the forklift backward.

There’s a reason Toyota has been the #1 Selling Forklift since 2002. Reinforce your commitment to safety by including Toyota forklifts in your fleet. Contact ProLift to schedule a demo!

Why Supervisors and Operators Need Forklift Safety Refresher Courses
