Released in 2014, the 8-series large capacity forklifts are powered by Toyota engineered engines. Lifting capacities vary by model, ranging from 8,000 – 17,500 lbs for pneumatic and 8,000 – 15,500 lbs for cushion.
These new 4-cylinder engines provide the same or greater horsepower and torque as the previous 6-cylinder designs and allow these large capacity forklifts use up to 30% less fuel than comparable models. Ditching the GM Vortec engine for an engine specifically created by Toyota for their forklift product was a bold move. However, these high-performance, fuel conscious, engines exude expert quality and reliably, which is synonymous with the Toyota brands. The engines were designed, tested, calibrated and then further tested over the last two years. The 8-Series large capacity pneumatic offers quicker throttle response and controls the amount of fuel consumed. The improved cooling system features a 55% larger radiator and external hydraulic cooler. This forklift makes working in extreme environments a breeze.
Operator Features & Ergonomics
Along with the power under the hood, Toyota continues to give unsubstantiated power to operators. Knowing that operators need a lift that meets both form and function, Toyota designed an overhead guard that provides the ideal operating visibility thus improving overall operator and warehouse safety. A speed control system comes standard on all new 8-series large capacity models along with larger operator assist grips and a wider entry way.
This large capacity model also comes with Toyota’s patented SAS (system of Active Stability). Unlike other brands, this design prevents forklift tip over before the operator makes a potential fatal mistake. This isn’t a reaction system that tries to correct a forklift that is off balance – it is an active preventing system that makes adjustments during operation that is only offered by Toyota.
